The FIRE Act tells EPA to update how it handles air-quality readings affected by wildfires and by planned burns used to prevent worse fires. States could ask EPA to leave those smoke-driven readings out of some federal clean-air decisions, such as pollution violations and area ratings. The bill may make prescribed burning easier and improve wildfire prevention, while also reducing when temporary smoke spikes trigger penalties. EPA must also post petition status online.
