This bill amends the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to strengthen food safety by expanding third-party audits of U.S. and foreign food facilities. It allows the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to use these certifications for import compliance and expedited programs. The bill enables the FDA to quickly share unredacted food safety data with state, local, Tribal, and territorial officials, and authorizes the destruction of imported food that poses health risks, with due process for owners and costs paid by them. Certain prescription drugs for personal use are exempt. The bill aims to better target risks, improve information sharing, and give the FDA stronger tools to keep unsafe food off the market.
