This bill would stop hospitals from forcing nurses to work past their planned shifts, except in emergencies, ongoing patient procedures, and short-term staffing gaps. Nurses who work 12 or more hours would have to get 8 hours off next. Hospitals could not punish nurses for refusing extra mandatory hours and would have to post complaint information. This could reduce burnout and mistakes, improving patient safety.
