Starting Oct. 1, 2026, any Florida home sold or transferred with a pool must have a compliant safety barrier, and the pool must include at least one approved safety feature. Sellers must tell buyers if the pool meets these rules before closing. This applies to pools of any age. Violations can be a misdemeanor but owners can avoid penalties by fixing issues within 45 days and taking a drowning-prevention class. Local governments may add reporting. Goal: reduce child drownings.
