America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP)

Description: America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) is the national trade association that represents health insurance providers in the United States. AHIP advocates for policies intended to expand access to affordable coverage, strengthen employer-sponsored and public–private coverage models, promote Medicare Advantage and Medicaid managed care, address prescription drug and administrative issues, and advance industry-led solutions to improve health equity and care delivery. Type: Trade association / nonprofit business league (commonly organized as a 501(c)(6) industry association) Policies: Advocacy for market-based coverage and stability of the Affordable Care Act marketplaces and employer coverage; support and defense of Medicare Advantage and Medicaid managed care; prescription drug policy and Part D reforms; administrative simplification (including prior authorization and interoperability); regulatory, tax and payment policies affecting insurers; efforts to expand coverage affordability and health equity; generally opposes single‑payer proposals that would supplant private coverage.
