About the Organization

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is a U.S.-based professional association of pediatricians and pediatric specialists focused on promoting the health, safety, and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults through clinical guidance, education, research, and public policy advocacy.

Policy Goals

Advocacy on child health and safety issues including immunization and vaccine policy, pediatric clinical guidelines, access to pediatric care and Medicaid/CHIP, maternal and child health, mental health and developmental services, injury prevention, nutrition and obesity prevention, environmental health, gun safety, and pediatric workforce and education policies.

Funding

Primarily funded by member dues and subscriptions, revenues from publications and continuing medical education, grants and philanthropic contributions, and fees for professional services and conferences.

Affiliates

State and territorial AAP chapters, internal sections and committees (specialty groups), the AAP Political Action Committee (AAP PAC), and partnerships with public health agencies and pediatric health organizations.

Legal Structure

Non-profit professional medical association (national membership organization) with affiliated entities including a political action committee
