About the Organization

The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) is a non-profit membership association representing state and provincial motor vehicle and law enforcement administrators in the United States, Canada and U.S. territories. AAMVA develops model programs, operational standards, technology specifications, training and best practices to support driver licensing, vehicle titling and registration, motor carrier oversight, information-sharing, identity security, and roadway safety.

Policy Goals

Driver licensing and testing standards; vehicle titling and registration; commercial motor carrier safety; identity verification and secure credentialing (including REAL ID implementation); data-sharing and law enforcement information exchange; cybersecurity and privacy for motor vehicle systems; automated and connected vehicle policy; roadway safety and impaired driving countermeasures.

Funding

Membership dues from state and provincial motor vehicle agencies, fees for services and publications, training and conference revenue, grants and contracts with government agencies, and private- sector partnerships.

Affiliates

Member motor vehicle and licensing agencies in U.S. states, territories and Canadian provinces; partnerships with federal agencies such as the U.S. Department of Transportation and Department of Homeland Security; collaborations with law enforcement organizations and private-sector vehicle technology vendors.
