The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) is the national professional association for emergency medicine physicians, residents, and medical students. It was founded in 1968 to improve the quality of emergency care and to serve as the voice and advocate for the specialty and its patients.
ACEP typically advocates for emergency medicine and broader health care policies affecting emergency physicians and patients, including emergency care quality and access, reimbursement and payment policy, regulatory and legislative advocacy, public health, disaster preparedness, opioid and substance use policy, and medical education/workforce issues.
Primarily funded by member dues, conference and continuing medical education revenue, publications, sponsorships, and related association activities.
ACEP has state chapters and specialty sections, and it is closely associated with emergency medicine physicians, residents, and medical students. Prominent public leaders include its elected presidents and board of directors.
