About the Organization

The American Council of the Blind is a national membership organization led by people who are blind or visually impaired. Its mission is to promote independence, dignity, equality of opportunity, and improved quality of life for people who are blind or have low vision.

Policy Goals

Disability rights and accessibility policy, including civil rights protections, education, employment, transportation, communications accessibility, assistive technology, accessible websites and digital media, and other policies affecting blind and visually impaired Americans.

Funding

Primarily supported by membership dues, donations, grants, fundraising, and revenue from affiliated programs and activities.

Affiliates

State and regional affiliates, special-interest affiliates, local chapters, and allied blindness organizations; prominent national leadership is member-elected rather than centered on a single high-profile founder.
