About the Organization

The American Hospital Association (AHA) is a national trade association that represents and advocates for hospitals, health systems, and other health care organizations across the United States. The AHA’s stated mission is to support members by shaping health policy, promoting patient safety and quality, advancing health equity, and providing research, education, and operational guidance for hospitals and health systems.

Policy Goals

Advocacy on hospital and health system priorities including Medicare and Medicaid payment and reimbursement, health care financing and capital access, regulatory burden reduction, public health preparedness and emergency response, workforce and staffing policy, quality and patient safety standards, health information technology and interoperability, rural and community hospital support, and policies affecting access to care and health equity.

Funding

Primarily funded by membership dues from hospitals and health systems, supplemented by fees from conferences and educational programs, publications, sponsorships, and grants.
