About the Organization

The American Lung Association is a national non-profit organization dedicated to protecting lung health and preventing lung disease through research funding, public education, community programs, and policy advocacy aimed at reducing tobacco use, improving air quality, and expanding access to respiratory care.

Policy Goals

Advocates for tobacco control and cessation policies (including restrictions on youth access and advertising), regulation of e-cigarettes and vaping products, stronger clean air and air quality standards, wildfire and indoor air pollution protections, increased federal and state funding for lung disease research and treatment (asthma, COPD, lung cancer), and improved access to respiratory care and medications including insurance coverage and public health preparedness for respiratory infectious diseases.

Funding

Primarily funded by individual donations, community fundraising events and campaigns, corporate sponsorships and partnerships, foundation grants, and program service revenue and government grants.

Affiliates

State and regional American Lung Association chapters and divisions, and frequent collaborators with public health agencies and professional respiratory organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, and medical societies focused on pulmonary medicine.
