The American Medical Association (AMA) is a U.S. professional association of physicians and medical students that promotes the art and science of medicine, advances medical education and ethics, advocates for physicians and patient care, and works to improve public health.
Health care delivery and payment policy, Medicare and Medicaid legislation, medical education and workforce issues, licensure and scope-of-practice rules, public health and prevention (vaccination, tobacco control, opioid response), telehealth and digital health policy, regulatory burden and liability reform, and health equity and access initiatives.
Primarily supported by member dues, revenue from publishing and journals (including JAMA and related publications), continuing medical education and conferences, advertising and sponsorships, investments, and grants/charitable contributions.
State and specialty medical societies, JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association), AMA Foundation, and AMPAC (the AMA political action committee).
