The American Medical Student Association (AMSA) is a national organization representing physicians-in-training, dedicated to improving health care and health equity through advocacy, education, and service. Founded in 1950, AMSA works to empower medical students and residents to become socially responsible physicians and advocates for patients and communities.
AMSA typically advocates for policies related to universal health coverage, health equity, reproductive health access, medical education reform, student debt relief, public health investment, climate and health, and social justice in health care delivery.
AMSA is primarily funded through membership dues, grants, donations, and program-related revenue.
AMSA collaborates with medical schools nationwide and partners with organizations such as the American Public Health Association and Physicians for a National Health Program, along with student-led chapters across the United States.
