The American Nurses Association is the premier professional association representing the interests of registered nurses in the United States. Founded in 1896, it works to advance the nursing profession, promote high standards of practice, support nurses’ health and work environment, and advocate on health care issues affecting nurses and the public.

Primarily funded by membership dues, program and service revenue, and support from its related ANA Enterprise organizations and foundation activities.
ANA Enterprise affiliates include the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the American Nurses Foundation; related organizations include constituent and state nurses associations, specialty nursing organizations, and the American Academy of Nursing.
