About the Organization

The American Public Policy Alliance (APPA) is a U.S.-based advocacy organization founded in the late 2000s that promotes restricting the use of foreign law in U.S. courts and advancing policies it frames as protecting constitutional rights and national sovereignty. APPA is best known for promoting the “American Laws for American Courts” (ALAC) model legislation and for lobbying state legislatures on related legal reforms; it has been the subject of criticism from civil rights groups that say its work targets Muslim communities.

Policy Goals

Promotes model state legislation to bar application of foreign laws or foreign legal doctrines in U.S. courts (notably anti-Sharia/ALAC initiatives), state-level family law and arbitration restrictions tied to foreign law, and broader themes of U.S. constitutional supremacy, sovereignty, government transparency, and public safety framed as legal-policy reforms.

Funding

Primarily funded by private donations and advocacy contributions; as a 501(c)(4) it is not required to publicly disclose all donors and does not publish a comprehensive public donor list.
