The American Public Power Association (APPA) is the national trade association representing community-owned, not-for-profit electric utilities in the United States. APPA provides advocacy, policy analysis, technical assistance, training, and research to support the delivery of reliable, affordable electricity and to advance the interests of municipal and other community-owned utilities.
Advocacy on federal energy and environmental policy, grid reliability and resilience, infrastructure investment, wholesale market and regulatory issues, ratepayer protection, cybersecurity and emergency preparedness, workforce development, and policies supporting municipal and community ownership of electric utilities.
Primarily membership dues and service fees from public power utilities, supplemented by revenue from conferences, training programs, publications, and sponsorships.
Member community-owned utilities (for example Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and Seattle City Light), allied organizations such as the Large Public Power Council and state municipal utility associations, and APPA board leaders and member utility executives.
