Americans for Democratic Action (ADA) is a national liberal advocacy organization founded in 1947 that promotes progressive public policy and grassroots mobilization to advance civil rights, economic and social justice, civil liberties, and democratic governance.
Typically pursues progressive legislative priorities including civil and voting rights, labor and collective bargaining protections, affordable health care and social safety net programs, progressive taxation and economic justice, campaign finance and election reforms, environmental and climate policy, immigrant rights, and protections for civil liberties and rule of law.
Primarily funded through membership dues and individual donations, supplemented by philanthropic grants, event fundraising, and contributions to affiliated fundraising vehicles.
Historically associated with founders and leaders such as Eleanor Roosevelt, Hubert Humphrey, John Kenneth Galbraith; maintains a national network of state and local ADA chapters and an Education Fund, and works in coalition with progressive advocacy groups and labor organizations.
