About the Organization

The Appliance Standards Awareness Project (ASAP) is a U.S.-based nonprofit coalition that advocates for stronger, cost-effective efficiency and water-use standards for appliances, equipment, and lighting. ASAP organizes technical analysis, outreach, and policy advocacy to lower consumer energy and water bills, reduce greenhouse gas and air pollution, and promote equitable benefits for low- and moderate-income households at both the federal and state levels.

Policy Goals

Advances federal and state appliance, equipment, lighting, and water-efficiency standards; supports DOE rulemakings, test procedure development, implementation and enforcement of standards; promotes consumer savings, pollution reductions, and equity-focused policy design.

Funding

Primarily funded through philanthropic foundation grants, contributions from member and partner organizations, project grants, and institutional support provided via its host organization (ACEEE).

Affiliates

Founded and regularly collaborates with the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), the Alliance to Save Energy, the Energy Foundation, and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC); frequent partners include consumer advocacy groups, state energy offices and utilities; notable figures historically associated with ASAP include Andrew deLaski and Joanna Mauer.
