Asian Law Alliance (ALA) is a community legal services organization founded in 1977 and based in San Jose, California. ALA provides direct legal representation, brief advice, community education and organizing to low-income Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities in Silicon Valley and surrounding counties, focusing on immigration, housing, public benefits, domestic violence, civil rights and language-access needs.
Advocacy and policy work related to access to justice, immigrant rights and naturalization, affordable and stable housing, domestic violence survivor protections, public benefits access, anti-discrimination and civil rights, language access and culturally competent services, and voter/civic engagement for API communities.
Primarily funded through a mix of foundation and government grants, individual donations and fundraising, pro bono partnerships with law firms, and small earned or program-related revenue.
Local and statewide legal aid and immigrant-rights networks, community-based groups in Santa Clara County (including historical ties to the San Jose Japanese American Citizens League), pro bono law firms and volunteer attorney networks, and immigrant-advocacy organizations.
