About the Organization

The Bayard Rustin Liberation Initiative is a Washington, D.C.-based policy advocacy organization founded to advance the civil rights and policy interests of same-gender-loving/LGBTQ+ people of color. It organizes advocacy, coalition work, public education and faith-based engagement to translate Bayard Rustin’s legacy of nonviolent coalition building into legislative and civic influence.

Policy Goals

Advocacy for LGBTQ+ equity and anti-discrimination measures, racial justice and economic justice policies affecting communities of color, criminal justice reform, expanded access to health care and social services, and faith-based community engagement on public policy

Funding

Primarily supported by individual donations, small grants and philanthropic contributions, earned income from publications and events, and coalition fundraising
