About the Organization

The Black Women’s Health Imperative is a national nonprofit organization founded by Black women to advance the health, wellness, and health equity of Black women and girls in the United States through advocacy, research, education, and leadership development.

Policy Goals

Health equity, access to quality and affordable health care, maternal health, chronic disease prevention and management, menstrual equity, menopause and midlife health, HIV prevention and treatment, breast and cervical cancer awareness, public health emergency response, clinical research diversity, and support for HBCUs.

Funding

Primarily supported by philanthropic grants, individual donations, corporate and foundation partnerships, and program grants.

Affiliates

Founded on the campus of Spelman College; has partnered with organizations such as Planned Parenthood, the National Birth Equity Collaborative, and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses; associated with prominent Black women’s health advocates and leaders.
