The Center for Health and Democracy is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization founded and led by former health insurance executive-turned-whistleblower Wendell Potter. The group works to expose and counter corporate influence in the health insurance industry and to advocate for patient-focused, affordable health care through public education, investigative research, and legislative engagement.
Advocates for health care affordability and access, insurer accountability and transparency, limits on corporate political influence and disinformation, stronger patient protections around coverage and claims denials, and state and federal reforms to reduce costs and improve coverage.
Primarily funded by individual donations and philanthropic grants, supplemented by small grants and fundraising for its affiliated education fund.
