About the Organization

The Center for LGBTQ Economic Advancement & Research (CLEAR) is a U.S.-based nonprofit social welfare organization that conducts research, education, and advocacy to improve the economic well-being of LGBTQI+ people, households, businesses, and communities. CLEAR produces reports on LGBTQ financial health, provides LGBTQ-competent financial education and services, and advocates for policy reforms that expand financial inclusion and reduce economic disparities facing LGBTQ communities.

Policy Goals

Advocacy for LGBTQ nondiscrimination in economic markets, consumer financial protection and fair lending reforms, increased access to credit and small business financing for LGBTQ-owned enterprises, LGBTQ-competent financial education and services, anti-poverty and economic inclusion measures, and regulatory changes affecting banking, payments, and insurance that impact LGBTQ consumers and businesses.

Funding

Primarily individual donations and membership dues, supplemented by philanthropic grants, event and program fees, and corporate or organizational sponsorships and partnerships.

Founder & Executive Director Spencer Watson; board members and staff such as Nancy Eiden and Kyle Inselman; organizational partners and collaborators including the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, California Reinvestment Coalition, National LGBTQ Anti-Poverty Action Network, ProsperUS, The Trans Capitalist, and First Step Alliance.
