About the Organization

The Center for Public Representation (CPR) is a nonprofit public-interest law firm that provides impact litigation, policy advocacy, and technical assistance to defend and advance the civil and human rights of people with disabilities and other marginalized groups. CPR pursues systemic cases and negotiated reforms to secure community-based services, appropriate education, access to health care and Medicaid, protections against institutionalization, and reforms to guardianship and related legal processes.

Policy Goals

Disability rights and civil rights; community integration and deinstitutionalization; special education (IDEA) enforcement; access to Medicaid and health and social services; guardianship and supported decision-making reform; institutional reform and oversight; class-action and systemic-impact litigation; related policy and regulatory advocacy.

Funding

Foundation grants, individual donations and charitable contributions, court-awarded attorneys' fees and cy pres distributions, and occasional government grants or contracts.

Affiliates

Collaborates with national and state disability-rights and civil-rights organizations (for example national protection-and-advocacy programs and groups such as the ACLU and disability law centers), legal services programs, and mental-health law advocates.
