About the Organization

The Clearinghouse on Women’s Issues (CWI) is a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit founded in 1974 that convenes monthly forums, produces newsletters and educational programming, and serves as an information‑sharing and networking hub for organizations and individuals working to advance economic, legal, educational and health equity for women and girls.

Policy Goals

Focuses on policies and public education that advance gender equality and women's rights, including pay equity and economic security, reproductive and women’s health access, Title IX and girls' education, anti‑discrimination and civil rights, prevention of violence and trafficking, and increasing women’s representation in public appointments; acts via briefings, public programs, coalition letters and testimony.

Funding

Primarily funded through member dues, donations and small grants, with supplemental support from program fees and occasional foundation or institutional grants.

Affiliates

Has worked with and participated in coalitions alongside organizations such as the National Coalition for Women and Girls in Education and the (formerly active) National Council of Women's Organizations; historically connected with groups that have hosted or co‑sponsored events including AAUW, the American Council on Education, and the Feminist Majority Foundation; notable longtime members and leaders have included Joy Simonson and other founding board members.
