Description: The Coalition on Human Needs (CHN) is a Washington, D.C.-based alliance of national civil rights, faith, labor, service provider and policy organizations that promotes federal policies to meet the needs of low-income and other vulnerable people. CHN convenes member groups, produces policy analysis and briefings, issues action alerts and coordinates advocacy on budgets, health, nutrition, housing, immigration and related human‑needs issues; it was founded in 1981. Type: Non-profit advocacy coalition (501(c)(3)) Policies: Federal budget and appropriations; health policy and Medicaid/ACA protections; food and nutrition programs (SNAP, WIC); housing and homelessness; income support and anti‑poverty programs; immigration and services for vulnerable populations; education and labor policy; progressive tax and economic security policies. Funding: Primarily funded by foundation grants, membership dues and individual donations (examples of foundation supporters include the Rockefeller Foundation and the David and Lucile Packard Foundation).
