About the Organization

The Committee of Interns and Residents/SEIU (CIR/SEIU) is a labor union representing resident physicians and fellows in hospitals and health systems across the United States. CIR organizes trainees to negotiate collective bargaining agreements, improve working conditions and compensation, promote patient safety and safe staffing, and advocate for equitable access to care and stronger graduate medical education.

Policy Goals

Collective bargaining for pay, benefits and scheduling for residents and fellows; duty-hour and workplace safety protections; safe staffing and patient-safety policies; support for robust graduate medical education funding and workforce development; health equity and access to care; public health preparedness and occupational protections for health workers.

Funding

Primarily funded by member dues from resident and fellow physicians and financial support/affiliation with the Service Employees International Union.

Affiliates

Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and other SEIU-affiliated locals and labor coalitions involved in healthcare advocacy.
