Defending Rural Florida is a statewide political committee (Defending Rural Florida PC) that works to elect and hold accountable candidates who protect Florida’s working farms, ranches, open space, and natural resources. The organization opposes overdevelopment, advocates for local control of land-use decisions, publishes legislative priorities and candidate information, and produces scorecards and voter-facing materials aimed at defending rural communities.
Land-use and growth-management policy; protection of working agricultural lands and conservation easements; local control/home rule; siting and regulation of utility-scale solar on agricultural land; reforms to state boards and agencies related to conservation (e.g., Fish & Wildlife); legal reforms affecting land-use litigation (e.g., Bert J. Harris Act); electoral activity including endorsements, candidate questionnaires, and legislative scorecards.
