The Economic Opportunity Institute is a Washington state–focused nonprofit that conducts policy research and advocacy to expand economic security and opportunity for low- and middle-income workers and families. It works on evidence-based analysis, public education, and coalition-building to advance workplace protections, family and medical leave, wage and tax policy, and inclusive economic policies.
State-level policies affecting job quality and worker security, including minimum and living wage proposals, paid family and medical leave, paid sick leave, unemployment and workforce development policy, tax fairness, and initiatives to reduce racial and economic inequities.
Primarily funded through foundation grants, philanthropic donations, and individual contributions, supplemented by program grants and fee-for-service contracts when applicable.
Frequently partners with labor unions, community and faith-based organizations, progressive advocacy groups, and academic or policy research partners; works with state elected officials and coalition networks on legislative campaigns.
