About the Organization

The Environmental Law & Policy Center (ELPC) is a Midwest-based public interest environmental organization founded in 1993 that uses legal action, policy advocacy, economic analysis and science to advance clean energy, clean air and water, sustainable transportation, Great Lakes protection, and environmental justice across Midwestern states and at the federal level.

Policy Goals

Advocates for renewable energy and energy efficiency, greenhouse gas and air pollution reduction, clean water and Great Lakes protection, clean transportation and electric vehicle adoption, smart land use and transit-oriented development, environmental justice, and enforcement of environmental laws and regulations

Funding

Primarily funded by philanthropic foundations, major individual donors and grants, supplemented by membership support and occasional fee-for-service or litigation-related recoveries

Affiliates

Founded and long led by Howard A. Learner; works in coalition with regional and national environmental and clean-energy organizations, state and local community groups, and philanthropic partners across the Midwest
