About the Organization

The Environmental Protection Network (EPN) is a nonpartisan nonprofit founded in January 2017 that mobilizes the expertise of hundreds of former U.S. EPA career staff and political appointees to defend EPA capacity, provide pro bono technical assistance to frontline communities and under-resourced government agencies, and promote science-based policies to protect public health, advance environmental justice, address climate change, and preserve regulatory protections.

Policy Goals

Advocacy for robust EPA funding and institutional capacity; defense of federal environmental regulations (air, water, toxic substances); climate mitigation and adaptation policy; environmental justice and community technical assistance; transparency, science-based rulemaking, and workforce diversity at environmental agencies.

Funding

Primarily supported by philanthropic foundation grants, individual donations, and program grants; additional revenue from charitable contributions and sponsored capacity-building projects.

Affiliates

EPA Alumni Association; a network of former EPA career staff and confirmation-level appointees from Republican and Democratic administrations; partnerships with frontline community groups, state/local/tribal environmental agencies, and environmental nonprofit organizations.
