Equality Michigan (EQMI) is a statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization that provides education, victim services, advocacy, and community outreach to advance equality and safety for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer Michiganders. Its mission is to ensure LGBTQ+ people can live their best lives in Michigan by changing laws, educating the public and institutions, and supporting survivors of violence and discrimination.
State-level LGBTQ+ policy and legislative work including anti-discrimination protections in employment, housing, and public accommodations; transgender rights and access to gender-affirming care; hate-crime prevention and survivor services; safe schools and anti-bullying measures; voter engagement and electing pro-equality candidates; and opposing anti-LGBTQ legislation.
Primarily funded by individual donations, philanthropic foundation grants, fundraising events, and supporter memberships; its affiliated action network accepts separate political contributions for advocacy and electoral work.
