Family Equality is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization founded in 1979 that advocates for LGBTQ+ families. It works to advance legal and lived equality through advocacy, education, resources, storytelling, and community-building.
LGBTQ+ family equality, family formation and parenting rights, marriage and relationship recognition, anti-discrimination protections, inclusive education, and policies affecting transgender and LGBTQ+ youth and families.
Primarily supported by charitable donations, grants, sponsorships, fundraising events, and individual contributions.
Founded by gay fathers at the 1979 National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights; led by CEO Darra Gordon.
