Farm Aid is a national nonprofit organization founded in 1985 to support family farmers and promote a strong and resilient family farm system of agriculture. The organization works to keep family farmers on their land, expand access to fair markets, and advocate for a food system that values sustainability, environmental stewardship, and rural communities.
Farm Aid advocates for federal and state agricultural policies that strengthen family farm viability, promote fair farm prices, expand access to credit and disaster assistance, support conservation and climate-resilient farming practices, reform corporate consolidation in agriculture, and improve local and regional food systems.
Primarily funded through individual donations, benefit concerts, grants, and merchandise sales.
Founded by Willie Nelson, Neil Young, and John Mellencamp, with longtime board involvement from Dave Matthews and Margo Price, and partnerships with family farm and sustainable agriculture advocacy organizations.
