FDD Action is the advocacy arm of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, established in 2019 as a 501(c)(4) organization to provide policy analysis and direct lobbying to Congress on national security, foreign policy, and measures to counter authoritarian and transnational threats.
Promotes legislation and oversight on U.S. national security and foreign policy, including sanctions and Iran policy, counterterrorism, defense and security assistance to allies (e.g., Israel, Ukraine, Taiwan), sanctions enforcement and illicit finance, export controls and supply-chain security, cybersecurity, and policies to counter authoritarian influence and economic coercion.
Primarily funded by private philanthropy, foundation grants, and individual donations; contributions to FDD Action are not tax-deductible.
Foundation for Defense of Democracies (parent 501(c)(3) think tank), senior FDD scholars and leadership (for example Mark Dubowitz and Clifford May), and allied national security and policy organizations that coordinate on policy advocacy.
