About the Organization

The Federation of American Hospitals (FAH) is the national trade association representing investor‑owned (for‑profit) community hospitals and health systems in the United States. FAH advocates for hospital financial stability, patient access, quality care, and a competitive health care marketplace.

Policy Goals

Federal payment and reimbursement (Medicare/Medicaid hospital payment policy), regulatory and compliance issues, tax and financing policy, workforce and staffing, quality and patient safety standards, value‑based payment and payment reform, telehealth and digital health policy, competition and antitrust matters, and public health emergency preparedness.

Funding

Primarily membership dues and fees from investor‑owned hospital systems and corporate sponsors, supplemented by revenue from events, conferences, and publications.

Affiliates

Major investor‑owned hospital systems and members such as HCA Healthcare, Tenet Healthcare, Community Health Systems, Universal Health Services and other for‑profit hospital operators; leaders of member systems regularly participate on FAH committees and advisory groups.
