Futures Without Violence is a U.S.-based nonprofit (founded in 1980 as the Family Violence Prevention Fund) that works to prevent and end domestic and sexual violence through policy advocacy, training, technical assistance, public education campaigns, and programs for health systems, courts, workplaces, schools, and communities.
Pursues legislation and administrative policies to increase funding for domestic violence and sexual assault services, strengthen survivor protections (including Violence Against Women Act reauthorizations), expand health-care screening and trauma-informed care, promote judicial and professional training, advance workplace and economic protections for survivors, support prevention programs for youth and men/boys, address early childhood trauma, and reduce gender-based violence internationally.
Primarily funded by foundation grants and philanthropic contributions, supplemented by government grants, corporate partnerships, and individual donations.
Founded and long led by Esta Soler; frequent partners and funders have included the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Nike/Nike Foundation (Coaching Boys into Men), Blue Shield of California Foundation, Macy's (RESPECT! campaign), and U.S. federal agencies on initiatives such as Defending Childhood and national domestic violence resource centers.
