Gold Star Spouses of America, Inc. is a membership organization of surviving spouses of U.S. service members and veterans who died in service or of service-connected causes. Founded to provide peer support, remembrance, and advocacy, the group assists survivors in navigating benefits, offers education and leadership development, organizes memorial activities, and advocates for legislative and policy changes to improve the welfare of surviving spouses and their families.
Advocacy for military survivor benefits and entitlements (VA benefits, Dependency and Indemnity Compensation, Survivor Benefit Plan, education benefits), improved access to mental health and bereavement services, survivor-focused administrative and financial support, inclusive recognition and memorialization policies, and outreach/education on issues affecting surviving spouses and dependent children.
Primarily funded by membership dues, private donations, grants, sponsorships, and fundraising activities.
Works with and lists resources/partners such as the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), Military OneSource, the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Survivors Assistance, the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), and engages with peer organizations including Gold Star Wives of America.
