House Our Neighbors is a Seattle-based advocacy organization that builds campaigns, develops policy, and educates the public to create permanently affordable, publicly owned social housing. Formed as a coalition in 2021, HON led successful ballot initiatives to establish and fund a Seattle Social Housing Developer and promotes climate-centered building standards and land-use changes to expand equitable, decommodified housing.
Creates and advocates for social housing development and funding mechanisms, progressive municipal taxation to finance housing, anti-displacement and tenant-support measures, zoning and land-use reform to end exclusionary practices, and building/climate standards for low-carbon, resilient housing.
Primarily supported by individual donations and grassroots contributions, supplemented by philanthropic grants and organized campaign fundraising for ballot initiatives (tax-advantaged donations routed through its 501(c)(3) education fund when applicable).
