Housing and Economic Rights Advocates (HERA) is a California statewide nonprofit legal services and advocacy organization based in Oakland that helps low- and moderate-income Californians address housing, consumer, debt, credit, foreclosure, and related economic justice issues.
Tenant rights, fair housing, foreclosure prevention, mortgage lending and servicing abuses, debt collection, credit reporting, consumer protection, elder financial abuse, domestic violence-related housing protections, and student financial aid/borrower rights.
Primarily supported by grants, charitable contributions, and public-interest legal funding.
Board and leadership include public-interest and consumer rights attorneys; the organization works with community partners, legal aid networks, and pro bono counsel.
