The Institute for Policy Studies (IPS) is a progressive, Washington, D.C.–based public policy think tank founded in 1963. It conducts research, education, and advocacy on issues including economic inequality, racial justice, climate policy, foreign policy, and human rights, with a mission to promote peace, justice, and a sustainable and equitable society.
IPS typically pursues policies related to economic justice and wealth inequality, progressive taxation, labor rights, climate action and environmental justice, demilitarization and restraint in foreign policy, human rights, corporate accountability, and strengthening democratic institutions.
IPS is primarily funded through foundation grants, individual donations, and philanthropic contributions.
Notable current and former affiliates include Phyllis Bennis, John Cavanagh, and the IPS New Internationalism Project; IPS has historical associations with progressive policy networks and advocacy coalitions.
