Description: The Iowa Food System Coalition is a statewide coalition of more than 40–50 organizations and individuals formed to advance a thriving, sustainable, and equitable food system in Iowa. It coordinates partners across production, processing, distribution, public health, schools, and community organizations, and published the statewide plan “Setting the Table for All Iowans” to guide collective action on local food, food access, and food-system resilience. Type: Coalition / statewide nonprofit network of partner organizations (nonprofit, academic, government, producers and community groups) Policies: Local and regional food system development, farm-to-school and institutional procurement, food access and nutrition incentives, food hub and distribution infrastructure, land access and support for beginning and diversified farmers, rural economic development, environmental stewardship and climate resilience, and equity-focused food security policies. Funding: Primarily philanthropic grants and sponsorships, partner dues and contributions, and in-kind support from member organizations and academic partners; notable supporters of the coalition’s plan include the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the Harkin Institute.
