About the Organization

Lutheran Services in America (LSA) is a national nonprofit membership network founded in 1997 that represents roughly 300 Lutheran health and human services organizations operating in about 1,400 communities. Headquartered in Washington, DC, the network’s mission is to cultivate caring communities that advance health and opportunity for all; collectively its members serve roughly 6 million people annually across programs for children, older adults, people with disabilities, veterans, refugees and families in need.

Policy Goals

Advocates for policies that strengthen the nonprofit social‑service sector and expand access to health and human services, including Medicaid and long‑term services and supports, child welfare and foster care, affordable housing and homelessness prevention, refugee and immigrant resettlement, veterans services, supports for people with disabilities, workforce and caregiver supports, disaster response capacity, and federal/state funding and regulatory frameworks that affect social service providers.

Affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS); network members include state and local Lutheran social ministry organizations such as Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota, Lutheran Services Carolinas, Lutheran Family Services, and national partners including Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service and other faith‑based and philanthropic partners
