About the Organization

Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA) is a regional nonprofit social services and refugee/immigrant relief agency founded in 1917 that provides resettlement, immigration legal assistance, foster care and child welfare, senior and disability supports, workforce development, mental health and community integration services across Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia.

Policy Goals

Typically pursues policies and funding that support refugee and immigrant resettlement, access to immigration legal services and naturalization, public benefits and safety-net programs, child welfare and foster care supports, mental health and trauma-informed care, workforce development and economic mobility for low-income communities, and anti-discrimination and inclusion measures for underserved populations.

Funding

Mix of public and private funding including federal, state and local government grants and cooperative agreements (including refugee resettlement funding), foundation and philanthropic grants, individual donations and some fee-for-service revenue.

Affiliates

Affiliated and partner networks include the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and local Lutheran synods and congregations, national refugee-support organizations such as Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS), and regional social service and immigrant-rights coalitions and legal aid partners.
