About the Organization

Mass-Care (Massachusetts Campaign for Single Payer Health Care) is a grassroots coalition founded in 1995 that advocates for the creation of a publicly financed, single-payer health care system in Massachusetts. The organization organizes local campaigns and ballot questions, sponsors state legislation (Medicare for All / Massachusetts Health Care Trust bills), lobbies the State House, and conducts public education and outreach to expand access, affordability, and equity in health care.

Policy Goals

Promotes single-payer (Medicare-for-All) legislation at the state level, public financing of comprehensive health care with no out‑of‑pocket costs, elimination of private coverage for services covered by the public plan, protections for equitable access and hospital resources, and related reforms to reduce costs and medical debt.

Funding

Primarily funded by small-dollar donations from individuals, contributions from member organizations and allied labor unions and progressive groups, and fundraising for legislative and outreach activities.

Affiliates

Coalition members and allies include labor unions (e.g., AFSCME Council 93, AFT Massachusetts, local teachers unions), advocacy groups (regional Medicare for All hubs such as Western Mass. Medicare for All), health justice organizations, and leaders such as current and former executive directors and board members (e.g., Kimberley Connors, Stephanie Nakajima, Jon Weissman).
