The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) is the state agency responsible for overseeing public education in Michigan. MDE develops and implements K–12 academic standards and assessments, administers state and federal education programs, distributes funding to local districts and public school academies, issues educator certifications, and provides technical assistance to improve student outcomes and comply with federal and state requirements.
