About the Organization

The Michigan Municipal League is a nonprofit, statewide association founded in 1899 that represents more than 500 Michigan cities, villages and urban townships. The League advocates for member municipalities at the state and federal level, provides education, technical assistance, insurance and risk-management programs, and advances policies and programs to strengthen local government capacity, community wealth and placemaking.

Policy Goals

Local government finance and municipal budgeting; home rule and local control; land use, zoning and housing policy; infrastructure, transportation and water funding; public safety and emergency management; risk management and municipal insurance; workforce and employee benefits; economic development, community revitalization and placemaking; intergovernmental relations and grant programs.

Funding

Primarily membership dues from municipal members and fees for services and programs (including self-insurance pools, employee benefit programs, consulting and events), supplemented by grants, philanthropic support through the Michigan Municipal League Foundation, and corporate partnerships/sponsorships.

Affiliates
