About the Organization

Minority Veterans of America (MVA) is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2017 in Seattle that seeks to create community, belonging, and advance equity for underrepresented veterans — including racial and ethnic minorities, women, LGBTQ+ veterans, and religious and non-religious minorities — through direct services, leadership development, community centers, transitional housing, training, and national advocacy.

Policy Goals

Advocates for equitable access to VA benefits and healthcare, anti-discrimination and gender-affirming care protections in VA services, veteran homelessness and housing supports, culturally competent behavioral health and suicide-prevention programming, benefits claims equity for veterans of color and other underserved groups, and broader equity, inclusion, and anti-discrimination measures affecting minority veterans.

Funding

Primarily funded by individual donations, foundation and philanthropic grants, program service revenue and merchandise sales, and local government grants/levies (e.g., King County Veterans, Seniors, & Human Services Levy) plus ad hoc donor support.

Affiliates

Operates local chapters (e.g., Seattle, Atlanta, Richmond) and community partners; works with King County Veterans, Seniors, & Human Services Levy and local funders on programs such as the Q’mmunity House; local chapter leads and program partners include named regional leaders and volunteer networks.
