Muslim Delegates and Allies Coalition

About the Organization

A grassroots coalition of Muslim Democratic National Committee delegates and allied activists formed in 2020 to amplify Muslim American voices within the Democratic Party and press for platform changes on U.S.–Muslim relations, foreign policy, civil liberties and progressive domestic priorities.

Policy Goals

Democratic Party platform reform to address anti‑Muslim bias; civil liberties and surveillance reform (repeal of parts of the Patriot Act, scrutiny of CVE programs and no‑fly lists); immigration reform and repeal of the Muslim travel ban; police reform including ending qualified immunity; progressive domestic policies (e.g., Medicare for All); and changes to U.S. foreign policy including reduced military aid, diplomacy with Iran, and criticism of policies affecting Palestinian rights.

Funding

Primarily volunteer‑led and member‑driven; supported by grassroots donations, in‑kind contributions and organizing by delegates rather than a formal, publicly disclosed institutional funding stream.

Affiliates

Prominent affiliated individuals include co‑founders Nadia B. Ahmad and Hanieh Jodat Barnes and participating DNC delegates (including Esam Boraey); the coalition has worked alongside progressive/Bernie‑aligned delegate networks and Muslim voter mobilization efforts.
