About the Organization

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is a century-old civil rights organization that advocates for the political, educational, social, and economic equality of Black people and other people of color. It mobilizes grassroots branches, litigation partners, policy research, and public campaigns to eliminate race-based discrimination and advance racial equity.

Policy Goals

Voting rights and anti‑voter suppression, criminal justice reform and policing, anti‑discrimination and civil rights enforcement, education equity, economic opportunity and workforce equity, healthcare and environmental justice, and civic engagement and public policy capacity building

Funding

Membership dues, individual donations and recurring donors, foundation grants and philanthropic support, corporate sponsorships and event revenues

Affiliates

NAACP Empowerment Programs (501(c)(3) public charity), NAACP Foundation, the historically linked but independent NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (LDF), and a nationwide network of state conferences and local branches; historically associated leaders include W.E.B. Du Bois, Ida B. Wells, Thurgood Marshall and other prominent civil rights figures
